A Collection of Original Songs that Prove Nostalgia Ain't What it Used to Be

We Love Our Guns is not a folk album in its truest sense. It's an electric magic carpet ride through the shared musical history of a generation. It’s filled with  jagged edges and raw energy from start to finish.

Texas singer-songwriter Clint Hancock brings a unique voice to Americana with shades of Tom Petty and Neil Young, embracing a lyrical style that cuts to the heart with sardonic accuracy.

The title song of his debut album, We Love Our Guns, is a reaction to the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, where 19 children and two teachers lost their lives to gun violence. Its rhythm and melody hold their own next to Steve Earle, Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt, powerful influences that prove Hancock is a master of his craft.

Songs like Me and You and In the Name of God wrestle with existential realities in politics and religion. Advice from a Moose pokes fun at the establishment, while Brazos River Ferry and Riders in the Sun present a nostalgic view of life as a pioneer in the American West, a reality that resides deep in Hancock’s DNA.

In What Made You Think That You Could Fly the song glides gracefully through chord changes that sound open and fluid. Clint and guitarist Rick Del Castillo play counterpoint to one another in a blend that evokes 1970’s Laurel Canyon. Sadness and the Sorrow and Troubadour might have come from that era too, as the artist pays tribute to Jackson Browne, Neil Young, America, the Allman Brothers, The Rolling Stones and others that were so influential through the decades.

In Back to Love there is an alchemical transformation through self-reflection that offers a musical reprieve and sets up the listener for one final onslaught.

In the finale, Heaven is not Far breaks away all prior constraints, channels David Gilmour, and climbs on top of the amplifiers with a blistering guitar solo that lifts us straight into the stratosphere.
